My CV

Education

  • 2006 - 2007 - PgDip Internet Technologies, Sheffield Hallam University
  • 1998 - 2001 - BEng Computer System Engineering, The University of Sheffield

Employment History

  • 2011 - Present - Ibuildings UK - Software Engineer

    I have recently started working for Ibuildings - the leading PHP authority in the UK and the Netherlands.

  • 2009 - 2011 - UK online centres (Ufi Ltd) - Web programmer

    I was the lead developer working on the organisation’s new core e-learning product which teaches people how to use computers and the Internet. Built on a combination of Drupal and Moodle, I integrated these two systems using a custom single sign-on solution as well as creating a number of Drupal modules which allowed Drupal to interface with Moodle. Through my work on this site, I have gained extensive knowledge of Drupal development. My role also involved work with the Joomla CMS and I developed a variety of Joomla MVC components including a system which allowed organisations to claim grant funding as well as an applications and claims management interface. Part of this involved server side encryption of sensitive information such as bank details as well as a desktop application to decrypt these details, which I developed using Java.

  • 2006 - Present - Freelance web developer

    I have worked on a number of projects for a variety of clients. I have been involved in the full web development lifecycle from initial requirements analysis, specification, design, development and testing. I gained extensive experience in a number of content management systems, including Joomla, ExpressionEngine and Wordpress.

  • 04/2008 - 08/2009 - The University of Sheffield - Web manager / IT Support technician

    I was responsible for creating and managing all web and IT systems at the world renowned Institute of Work Psychology. I redeveloped the departmental website, using the ExpressionEngine CMS, which I identified (based on the requirements and technical knowledge of the staff), as a more suitable alternative to the existing CMS in use at the time. This resulted in a huge increase in content on the new site, due to regular staff updates and blog posts. I also created and managed several other websites including:

    • the commercial arm of the Institute;
    • an online booking system for courses and seminars as part of the above site;
    • a site for the biennial work psychology conference organised by the Institute;
    • sites for a number of research projects.
  • 2001 - 2006 - Unique3 Ltd - Director of IT

    As IT director of a music events and promotions company which I set up after graduating, I was responsible for all areas of IT. I created a successful website built on the Joomla CMS, which attracted a large community of users. I managed all aspects of the company's digital marketing including the creation of HTML email newsletters, Facebook pages and the bulk SMS system. I also created a PHP e-ticket purchasing and management system which allowed the company to sell tickets with greatly reduced fees compared to using third party ticket sites. I played a key role in building a successful small business, which at its peak achieved an annual turnover of approximately £250K.
