Mark Ross - Web Developer in Sheffield - PHP, Joomla, Wordpress, ExpressionEngine, HTML

About Me

I'm a web developer based in the wonderful city of Sheffield, UK. I specialise in creating high quality websites using hand coded XHTML, CSS, PHP and Javascript. Although my speciality is coding, I also have experience of designing sites (including this one) and have good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

I love all things to do with the web, in fact some might say I am a bit obssessed. It all started way back in 1994 back in my hometown of London, when I first discovered the Internet at which point I started experimenting with creating websites (RIP Geocities!).

In 1998 I went to study "Computer Systems Engineering" at Sheffield University where I was first exposed to object oriented programming techniques and built my first software applications.

After graduating, a 6 year stint running a music events and promotions company allowed me to combine my love of web development with my love of music. However, by 2006 the constant late nights had started to get a bit much and I decided to go back to university to study a postgraduate course in "Internet Technologies". Here I was able to really expand my web development skills, covering subject areas such as web usability, advanced programming techniques and graphic design.

Since then I have been working as a freelancer as well as an in house web developer for a department at Sheffield University.

I work with a variety of content managament systems including ExpressionEngine, Wordpress, and Joomla.

In my spare time you might find me taking photos with my DSLR, drinking wheat beer, eating cheese and drinking strong coffee. At weekends I can sometimes be found playing house and techno music loudly at various late night drinking establishments around Sheffield. I've also recently been known to do a bit of mountain biking.
